How Much Does a Custom Song Actually Cost?
Short answer: anywhere from $19.90 to over $1,000. The price is mostly about whether a human songwriter writes it or an AI does. Here's the full breakdown, what you get at each tier, and when to pick what.
Made for the people and moments you love

Why the price varies so much
The biggest factor is human labor. A professional songwriter writing lyrics, recording vocals, and producing a track takes 4-8 hours of actual human work. Multiply by their hourly rate plus studio and company overhead, and $200 is a fair price, not a rip-off.
AI services price under $25 because no human is in the loop. An AI music model produces the lyrics, vocals, and track. The cost is server compute, not labor. That's why YourSongBox, OurSong, and Songoven all sit in the $20-$25 zone.
Speed is priced in too. AI is faster because there's no human schedule to wait on. Human services charge rush fees for expedited turnaround. If you need a song tomorrow, AI is the only realistic path.
Brand and roster matter. Songfinch's $199 includes their brand equity (Shark Tank), their vetted roster, and the assurance that the songwriter assigned to you has a portfolio. An unknown Fiverr seller at $40 might be great or might be a beginner, the variance is real.
Edits and revisions add cost for human services. Most premium ones include 1-2 revision rounds. On YourSongBox, lyric editing is free before payment. After payment, one included remake round creates two additional versions from the same current lyrics.

FAQ
What's the cheapest custom song option that's actually good?
AI services in the $20-$25 range (YourSongBox, OurSong, Songoven) are the cheapest that produce genuinely good output. Below $20, you start to see hobbyist sellers or unreliable services. Above $20 but in the AI category, you're paying for a proven pipeline and a refined interface.
Is a $200 Songfinch song really 10x better than a $23.99 AI song?
Not 10x better, but different. Songfinch gives you a human songwriter's voice and the artisan quality of a person who wrote specifically for you. AI gives you a highly-produced track that's responsive to your lyric edits. Both are real songs. The price difference is about craft vs speed and budget.
Are there hidden costs with custom song services?
The $23.99 YourSongBox package includes two recordings, MP3 downloads, a share link, and one remake round. A custom cover and extra remake rounds are optional paid add-ons. Other services set their own fees.
What about commercial use or licensing?
Most custom song services (including YourSongBox) grant personal use rights, meaning you can share the song socially and gift it, but not use it commercially (in an ad, in a film, sold as a product). For commercial licensing, commission a freelance songwriter directly and negotiate rights. Budget $500-$3,000+ for full commercial rights.
Can I get a refund if I don't like the song?
Policies vary by service. YourSongBox lets you edit lyrics before payment and includes one remake round that creates two additional versions. Refund rights still apply where required by law. Check each service's own terms before buying.
$23.99. Two recordings. Yours.
Edit the lyrics before payment. The package includes two recordings and one remake round. Custom covers and extra remake rounds cost more only if you choose them.
